The five-piece Alain Whyte Band comprises an all-star lineup of former Morrissey alumni, arguably combining some of the best collaborators of his career.

Alain Whyte (vocals/guitar)
Gary Day (bass/double bass)
Spencer Cobrin (drums)
Craig Gannon (lead guitar)
Gustavo Manzur, Jr. (keyboards, acoustic guitar, backing vocals)

The core of the group, Alain, Gary & Spencer originally hailing from England, predated their tenure as Morrissey’s original live solo band forming the rockabilly outfit, The Memphis Sinners. As an integral part of Morrissey’s band, Whyte provided the most co-writes (inc. the majority of songs for the “Your Arsenal” record, which to this day remains the only Grammy nominated Morrissey release). All three shared co-writing credits and toured extensively with Morrissey during the first half of his solo career dating back to 1991. Affectionately referred to as “The Lads”, they are famous for creating the alternative/indie sound that represents what most consider the Golden Era of his career. Alain’s lead guitarist, Craig Gannon is often referred to as “The Fifth Smith” due to his time playing live in legendary English band The Smiths in addition to co-writing such classics as “Ask”. His output with other artists (Aztec Camera, Terry Hall, etc.), as well as his writing for TV/Film, brings a well-rounded, respected element and tasteful tone to the current Alain Whyte Band. As the lone American, multi instrumentalist, Gustavo Manzur, Jr., whom bonded with Whyte during their tenure recording and touring with Morrissey, completes the band with his ability to seemingly play anything thrown at him. He blends an inventive modern style with a more traditional classic piano sound as well as providing acoustic guitar as needed.

The band have been primarily recording remotely (the 4th Alain Whyte solo ep, “Baby, I’m Strange” is slated for release the second half of 2024), but convened in Ireland for their first ever string of live shows near the end of 2023. The tour successfully culminated with a finale at famed Whelan’s in Dublin with fans traveling from The US, The UK, Canada and parts of Europe to take in these inaugural gigs. Their shows carry a high energy alternative rock vibe with a slight nod to their rockabilly origins at times. The sets consist of Alain Whyte solo material, a sampling of some of the fan favorite Morrissey co-writes and a few covers the band is known for or are especially keen on. The band look to expand upon the success of the Irish tour by exploring opportunities to play The UK, Europe, North America, and beyond beginning in 2024.
